Remote Access VPN and 2FA Demo
VIDEO TRANSCRIPT | Recorded: 2025-10-30 | Verify against current system state
Abstract¶
Brief security demonstration showing that remote desktop access to production SQL servers requires VPN connection with two-factor authentication. Without VPN, connection attempts fail; with VPN connected (indicated by green status), remote desktop access succeeds.
Key Procedures¶
- Verify VPN connection status before attempting remote access
- Connect to VPN with two-factor authentication enabled
- Look for green dot indicator confirming VPN connection
- Access remote desktop only after VPN is active
Notable Statements¶
- 0:00:05 "I'm showing how remote access is denied unless I'm on a VPN with two-factor authentication."
- 0:00:19 "You'll see that I cannot reach the SQL server."
- 0:01:11 "This shows that without VPN there's no way to access the remote desktop."
- 0:01:24 "These specific production servers, really any of our servers, are only accessible to specific members of staff."
Systems & Configurations¶
Systems Mentioned¶
- VPN (virtual private network)
- Remote Desktop (Windows RDP)
